Lost Heroes

Monday, May 7th, 2007

ABC announced that Lost has 48 episodes to go. While I like the idea of a drop-dead date, I have my doubts that I can stay interested that much longer.

I think I get my fill of TV with Heroes now. I’m even reading the graphic novels the network shovels out every Monday. I tried reading the 9th Wonders site though and I think it came very close to ruining it for me.

Heroes has a longevity factor built in that Lost sort of threw out with the bath water. With Heroes, the adversity of living with a secret and coming to terms with new abilities that others wouldn’t understand can make for good TV all by itself. Toss in that not everyone who learns they can read minds, fly, torch things, or paint the future will want to use those powers to help others and you have a conflict gold mine.

With Lost - they will either be rescued, or they will die on the island. Neither or which seems satisfactory.

In an attempt to thwart the spam-commenting that kept me from making any real edits here, I’ve added a ‘guest’ account to both the Gallery and the blog sections of the site. To add comments to either, login using the name Visitor. The password is dadada.

Happy posting.

Jen’s Turn

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Now that we have the computers set up in the new house I can make my first post to our new blog. Yay! I can’t let Rob have all of the fun. The hardest part about this whole “buying a new house” thing was definitely the waiting. We had to wait about a month in between the time we said “Yes, we want it” and the day of closing. But other than that - piece of cake! The Closing went incredibly smoothly - it was over in about 45 min. due in no small part to the wonderful professionals we had working for us. Initial, sign, repeat. The Move was also great. It was our first time using professional movers and I was seriously impressed at the speed at which those three guys got everything done. “Oh, the couch is in already?,” “That guy was carrying like 5 boxes!” Now for the unpacking part. We actually have the priority rooms pretty much done already- kitchen, family room (which Rob keeps calling the “TV Room” despite my protests), and most of the office. The bedroom is next b/c it would be nice to be able to find our clothes again. (”Honey, where are my underwear?”)

Next time on Adventures in Homeownership - Finding a Landscaper. I know it’s the epitome of suburban snobbishness, but we want our lawn to look as pretty as our neighbor’s - and we don’t know how to do that stuff (”That’s mulch, right?”) and frankly have no desire to learn. Some things are better left to the professionals. But, I say this before having no idea what they cost. We shall see…

All in!

I don’t know what the bigger surprise is: that we have so much crap, or that the movers got it all into the new place 2 hours ahead of schedule.

Now figure out where to put it.

Moving day

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

Our movers arrived a little after 8 this morning and are making quick work of the house. They are seriously blowing through the place. They may finish loading well before 11.

I stupidly decided to redesign the site a week before the move so the whole thing is in flux at the moment. Once I get my computer to the new house, unpack, wee and mow the neglected lawn, move everything I unpacked and get some rest, then get back from Paris… I’ll update this theme to match the new site and perhaps even finish the new site…

New House Update Issue 1. Vol. 1

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

We’ve been in the new house for 3 nights now. The cable guy is supposed to come this afternoon and reconnect us to the outside world.

Downtown Atglen (The Corner Cafe and Nick’s Chicks BBQ) is about a 5 minute walk from our door. We tried the Cafe last Monday and I have to say pretty good food for an itty bitty price. The hours at the BBQ place are bit odd, but we’ll get in there soon. The nearest pub is about a 15 minute drive in any direction.

New House, new blog

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Someone set us up the blog.

Last weekend Jen and I went to New York City for Jen’s annual SIOP conference. We got to see a lot of people we’ve missed since we moved to sunny Pennsylvania and we spent a good portion of Friday and Saturday catching up and generally enjoying everyone’s company.

In an effort to more effectively keep in touch with the all the people we’re now so far away from, link our disparate groups of friends, and announce to everyone our new house purchase, I wanted to start a blog.

I’ve tried this before and failed miserably. Mostly because I am lazy and have a complete lack of follow-through. This time is different for 2 reasons:
1) I have stuff to talk about
2) I have discovered the power of WordPress and the ability to post to a blog via email

So, with that out of the way… lets get to postin’
